About Caroline

The artisan behind Slaked

Slaked is the studio of Caroline, an artist and artisan based in the Omaha metro.

Her practice includes lime plaster, painting, and ceramics, with a shared focus on material, texture, color, and craftsmanship.

The studio

Slaked is a small, hands-on studio. Caroline develops and applies each finish herself, working with the designers, architects, and builders responsible for the space.

Each finish is considered in relation to the interior, including its light, palette, architecture, and surrounding materials. Keeping the development and application in the same hands creates a more consistent result, from the first sample to the finished surface.

Material and surface

Caroline's work in painting and ceramics led naturally to lime plaster. All three involve building color and texture through layers while responding to the qualities of the material.

Authentic lime has natural tonal movement and mineral depth. Rather than making every surface perfectly uniform, Caroline works with those qualities to create a finish suited to the room.

Training and approach

Caroline trained in the Stucco Italiano system through Italiwalls, where she learned to work with authentic lime plaster, mineral pigment, and marble aggregate. The material is applied in thin layers and compressed with a steel trowel to create depth, movement, and a range of textures and sheens.

That training provides the technical foundation for each project. Bespoke samples are developed for the interior and refined through color, texture, movement, and sheen before the final application begins.

The result is an authentic, hand-troweled lime finish developed specifically for the space.
